About Us

Welcome to the Presidency University Library and Knowledge Resource Centre
Your gateway to a world of knowledge and academic resources.

We are the Knowledge hub of the University. We aim to expand the knowledge of our students, faculty and staff, and thus support their academic, research and professional development by introducing them to our vast collection of 61,000 books, providing access to many national and international journals and steering them through a wide range of online databases.

 

The library at Presidency University serves as a vital source of information resources across all schools and disciplines which include Engineering, Law, Management, Design, Allied Health Sciences, Media Studies and Liberal arts and sciences.

Advanced Library Services with Digital Access and Global Collaboration

We are well equipped with KOHA automation, RFID technology and a Web-Based OPAC system. Our Library ensures unlimited access, efficient circulation and advanced digital services. Students can also explore an Institutional Repository, Open Access Resources Repository (PULOAR), Cyber labs, and remote access to subscribed e-resources to support their constant learning.
Our collaboration with other international and national e-resource centers facilitates access to knowledge to our students and scholars.

Our Services
What the library can do for you!
  • Expert guidance is provided to students seeking reference or referral assistance.
  • Library provides students access to resources from affiliated libraries through its memberships with institutions such as IISc and IIM Bangalore, supporting their academic and research needs.
  • Digital library: Access to questions papers, reference materials, e-books and other resources
  • All the users are trained to use available resources and tools and academic databases.
  • All faculty, researcher scholars and students are given absolute support to search and obtain articles for research.
  • Users are given access to browse the internet for their academic research.
  • Newspaper clippings service: Regular News Bites are circulated to inform users about academic and research news updates.
  • Scanning service: Users are provided with scanned copies of library-acquired materials in accordance with the copyright policy.
  • Remote access to E-resources: Students are given remote access to all subscribed databases.
  • Similarity Check: The library, in accordance with the University Research Policy, assists users in identifying similarity and AI-generated content reports for their research work.
  • All users are given access to other institutional research like research publications
  • The library maintains a collection of fiction and non-fiction titles for users' leisure reading.
  • All the users are trained to use available resources and tools and academic databases.
  • Users have access to Web OPAC (Library Catalogue) to support their search and retrieval of library resources.
  • Library archives University Videos and Photos of all the events organized by the University.
     
  • Training Sessions are organized to make the students, scholars, and faculty members aware about library resources and there access.
Access to the Library services & Navigation through the library

Presidency University is committed to student satisfaction in every possible way. Following are steps to be followed by users for efficient and smooth usage of the library.

  • All the users of the library need to scan their ID cards for entering or exiting out of the Library
  • Expert Library staff are always available to assist you in locating books.
  • Call Number once obtained, will guide you to the subject rack you are looking for.
  • Check the availability of the book you are looking for by using Library OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue).
  • Each Shelf have Bay guides pasted on them, indicating the range of call numbers it holds. Identify the range you require, and you will find your book there.
  • Once you have the Call Number, head to the appropriate subject rack.
  • Use the Call Numbers printed on the spine of every book for easy access and location. Call Numbers are allotted by the subject and guides the user to navigate to the appropriate shelf.
Rules to be followed within the Library

The Presidency University Library and Knowledge Resource Centre is a shared academic space. To ensure a smooth and respectful experience for all users, please follow these rules and guidelines.

A. Access Guidelines
  • Library access is restricted to Presidency University students, faculty, and staff.
  • University ID cards must be scanned at entry and exit.
  • Always carry your University ID for all Library transactions. Books or resources will not be issued without it.
  • Do not mark, underline, fold, write on, or damage any library materials.
B. General Rules
  • Leave personal belongings (bags, laptop bags, folders, etc.) at the property rack. Do not leave valuables; the Library is not responsible for lost items.
  • Follow “A book misplaced is a book lost”: do not re-shelve books yourself. Leave used books on tables; staff will return them to the rack properly.
  • Always maintain silence and academic decorum. Speak softly only when necessary.
  • Mobile phone usage is strictly prohibited in the library.
  • Food and beverages are not allowed inside the library premises.
C. Rules for Borrowing Books
  • Books are issued only with a valid ID card.
  • Identity cards are non-transferable. Do not use or lend another’s card; staff may deny service.
  • Books must be returned by the due date indicated on the slip. Late returns will incur fines (as per Rule IX.1).
  • Books may be recalled by the librarian at any time and must be returned promptly.
  • Check the condition of books before borrowing. Report any damage immediately to library staff.
  • Borrowers are fully responsible for the care of issued books. Damaged or marked books will result in penalties or replacement charges.

D. Rules for Renewal of books
  • Only those books which are not in demand, or which are not requested by others are allowed to be renewed.
  • Only Faculty Members and Research Scholars are allowed to renew books online through Library OPAC (http://182.72.188.195/ ).
  • Faculty Members and Research Scholars are allowed to renew books online up to five and three times respectively, with one-month duration per renewal.
  • Students must physically bring the borrowed books(s) to the library for renewal.
  • Students may renew books for 15 days, provided no other student has requested for the same book.
  • Books reserved by other students cannot be renewed and must be returned by the due date.
  • Books can be renewed only once, for fifteen days.  Students should return them within the due date. 
  • Book must be on the shelves of the library for two days before it can be renewed again by the same student.
E. Rules for Reservation of Books
  • Only those books which are currently on loan/in circulation can be reserved.
  • Online reservation of a book is possible only from the campus (institutional WIFI) via Library Software.
  • If more than one student requests for a book, then each of them will be allotted a priority number, and the book will be issued as per the priority list.
  • Reservations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
When a reserved book is returned:
  • The student/faculty has to remit 3 times the current price along with the overdue charges’ if reported after due date.
  • Student will be remitting three times the cost of the book if reported before the due date.
  • If the book is a rare, out of print book, then the student will have to remit five times the cost of the book.
Overdue Charges, Loss of Books & Identity Card Responsibility
  • A fine of Rs. 5/- per day (including holidays in between) will be charged.
  • In the event of overdue charges exceeding the cost of the book, then the student will have to pay the cost of the book.
  • In the event of overdue charges exceeding the cost of the book, then the student will have to pay the cost of the book.
  • Borrower must replace the books if they are either lost or damaged. In case the student/faculty is unable to replace the books then
  • The student/faculty has to remit 3 times the current price along with the overdue charges’ if reported after due date.
  • Student will be remitting three times the cost of the book if reported before the due date.
  • If the book is a rare, out of print book, then the student will have to remit five times the cost of the book.
  • A borrower is solely responsible for the book borrowed using his card.
  • Only the student is responsible for the loss/misuse of the ID card.
  • No-Dues certificate will be issued to the student if and only if he surrenders all the books borrowed and clears all the overdue charges (if any).
